He took a break from competition to try a coaching role. In 2020 he said he was considering a return to competitive action in 2021. "I think that next season [2021/22] I will try to participate in the national championships of Kazakhstan, and there, if everything goes well, I will try to be selected for the World Cup and then for the [2022 Winter] Olympics."
