His sister was doing figure skating when he was a child. He was bored around the ice rink so his mother decided to send him to skating lessons. He started with speed skating and became interested in short track later on.

Other information	RETIREMENT In October 2022 he announced his retirement from short track in order to focus on his tattoo studio Goons and Queens Heerenveen in the Netherlands. "In addition to skating, I have been busy opening a tattoo studio and I've been putting a lot of energy into it. I tried to qualify for the world cups, but unfortunately I didn't succeed. That also says something about the competitive level in the Netherlands, I can't just compete with them anymore."
