Other information | RETIREMENT He retired from competitive speed skating in 2021. (schaatsen.nl, 12 Nov 2021) CHOOSING SKATING He admits to losing his focus for the sport during a period of time in his teenage years, before renewing the motivation for his speed skating career at age 17. He said he hoped his career would serve as an example for others to pursue their ambitions. "I had some stupid ideas when I was younger. Like many other boys, I was immature, and lacked direction for a period. I came across the wrong environment and became involved in a lot of nonsense. Suddenly I realised that I was on the wrong path. I realised I had to get away from the stupid things I was doing if I wanted to achieve anything at all. I do not regret my decision for one day that I chose to go 100% for skating. I want my career to help others who are going the wrong way and show them that it is never too late to become someone, even to reach the top of the world." (aftenposten.no, 12 Feb 2018) |
