Other information | INJURY SCARE He broke his leg at the 2019 World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, but was relieved that the injury was not worse. There were initial fears that he had also ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in his knee, which would have put him out of action for 12 months rather than two. "Without an official diagnosis from scans, it was suggested by the doctor and physio that I had ruptured my ACL and could very likely expect 12 months out. This was difficult to process. As the season was coming to an end, there were athletes celebrating their success and looking forward to the next season. I was not hopeful that I would even be training for next season, so that contrast really hit me hard and it was an extremely uncomfortable place to be in. I got back to the UK in one piece, [and] the very next day I saw the surgeon who had unbelievable news. I had only broken my leg! He explained that for some reason the ACL was intact, which is apparently very rare with the type of break I had [evulsion]. From a possible nine to 12 months out requiring surgery, suddenly being reduced to six to eight weeks in a leg brace was an indescribable relief. I can't say I ever thought I would be so relieved that I 'only' broke my leg." (teamtreacy.co.uk, 02 May 2019) FURTHER EDUCATION He has studied for a master's degree in sport management at De Montfort University in Leicester, England.
