Other informationLATE OLYMPIC DEBUT
She made her debut at the Olympic Winter Games at Beijing 2022 when she was age 33. "It would have sounded strange if I said that I had set myself a goal of reaching the Olympics in 2022 at age 33. I have won a lot of medals in the national championships, but I was, in a way, the one who never managed to get all the way to the top. After all, I have always been studying or working. When the pandemic came, everyone had to work from home. You worked at home with slightly more flexible working hours. Although I obviously didn't want the [COVID-19] pandemic to continue, it helped me a lot. I suddenly got my recovery time back, I never really had it before. Taking part in the day sessions was absolutely great for me. But it was clear that being able to train with the best was a huge key to my being able to qualify for the Olympics." EATING DISORDER
In 2021 she began participating in the Norwegian Skating Association's Iglo project, which was an initiative to promote healthy relationship with food and body. She had struggled with an eating disorder in her late teens and early 20s. "We started the Iglo project under the auspices of the Norwegian Skating Association, not purely because we have a huge problem with eating disorders in skating, but mainly to reach out to people. The main goal is to create transparency and show the way for clubs, friends, and comrades who wonder who to contact, who to ask for help. It is like a snowball that just gets bigger and bigger. First you cut out some food and think, 'Oh, that was easy'. Then you cut out more. Those close to me were shocked [when she was having her own issues]. I know I did not look good, like a skeleton, but you have a competition with yourself, two voices fighting each other. It was not the rational part of me that was in control. It's difficult in sports, because some people experience progress if they lose weight. You can get a positive boost, but then it turns negative in the end. The thing that stuck with me from my recovery was that we only live once. I wanted to live life to the fullest, with all the joys and challenges it has to offer."
