Sporting philosophy / motto"If I don't throw up after a race, it means I didn't go all out. I like pain. I love skating. And for me, the longer the better. The longer you get to skate the better. It kind of drives me. I like pain for some reason. It might be a bit weird, but you have to be able to skate through the pain and enjoy it a little bit." Other informationOLYMPIC INSPIRATION
He credits fellow Canadian speed skater Justin Warsylewicz with inspiring him to become an Olympian. "Justin was an iconic speed skater who, before competing at the Olympics in 2006, went through heart surgery which sidelined him from the sport for some time. Luckily for him, he recovered well from the surgery and qualified to compete. Knowing everything he had to overcome to get there, it was amazing to watch him go on to win an Olympic silver in the men's team pursuit. I was fortunate enough to be coached by Justin when I first moved out to Calgary and learned so much from him. He is also from my home province of Saskatchewan and comes from the same neighbourhood."
