Sport Specific Information
Sport Specific Information
Name of coachErwin ten Hove [club], NED
Reason for choosing this sport"My brother started speed skating before me. He is older than me and I was just following him. I also started this sport because I came from Jogeva County, more precisely four kilometres from Adavere, Estonia, where there was a skating rink. Another important reason is definitely [Estonian speed skating coach] Vaino Treiman, who revived speed skating in Adavere."
When and where did you begin this sport? He began speed skating in 2007 at age 10 in Adavere, Estonia.

Other informationMOVE TO THE NETHERLANDS
In May 2020 he relocated to Heerenveen, Netherlands, to train with Team IKO and coach Erwin ten Hove ahead of the 2020/21 season. He was previously based in Poland with Finnish coach Tuomas Nieminen during the 2019/20 season, but says he needed to change his environment to help him develop as a skater. "At the end of last season [2019/20], I realised that this cooperation [with Nieminen] had been exhausting for me. It was a good start and I got a lot of help preparing for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. However, the coach became more and more committed to preparing for the 500m sprint, and last season only sprinters remained in our group, whereas I specialise in the 1000m and 1500m. Therefore, I felt that this path would not take me any further." (sport.err.ee, 16 Dec 2020; vooremaa.ee, 05 May 2020; Athlete, 15 Nov 2019; sport.postimees.ee, 09 May 2019)
