Other informationFOCUS
Speaking in late 2019, he said his focus moving forward would be on the marathon and mass start events. "I want to stay involved in long track speed skating this season but in the 5km and 10km events I fall short compared to the best in the world. So I think it's better to focus on events I can win. Those are the marathon and the mass start. Those are the two things I'll focus on. I prefer marathon skating over long track speed skating because of the tactical game. The decision is up to the national head coach but if he selects me, I would be pleased to participate in mass start races in the World Cup." (omropfryslan.nl, 19 Oct 2019; 09 Nov 2018)

OCCUPATION
He works as a care salesman at a business owned by his father-in-law in Gorredijk, the Netherlands. Prior to that he worked as a car mechanic, but prefers the sales side. "I can combine my job very nicely with skating as I'm able to schedule my own working hours. I enjoy talking about my field of expertise [cars], for me that's easier than giving interviews [related to sport]. I like it when both me and the customer go home satisfied." (omropfryslan.nl, 19 Oct 2019)
