"My mum [three-time Olympian Oksana Ravilova] tried to protect me from speed skating. She knows how difficult it is, so she took me to all kinds of clubs - gymnastics, dancing, ballet, acrobatics, aerobics. I stayed the longest in gymnastics, but I always enjoyed running on the ice, so at age three I started skating. When I made my choice of this sport, my parents did not stop me."
