She announced her retirement from competitive speed skating in March 2021. "I thought about the fact that there is less than a year left until the [2022] Olympics but I have participated in two [Olympic Winter Games]. If I were to try for one more, I would have to fully assert myself to it. I do not think it is possible anymore without having my inner drive every day. I feel in my whole body that I am ready to move on in life. Of course it's sad, but most of all I'm left with a sense of gratitude for everything I've experienced in my life as an elite athlete. Now I'm facing a new chapter in my life, and I'm looking forward to getting started. I will complete my bachelor's degree in sociology, and complete courses in sports management.
