He sustained a serious knee injury in November 2019, and he had to wait six weeks before he could start his rehabilitation. "I had to learn to walk again at first. It seemed very strange because I walked with a stiff leg. But as soon as I had mastered that, I could take steps forward. It is annoying not being able to do what you used to be able to do. That is the toughest mentally. You have to see what you can do with your knee every day. In a way it just like before the injury. Do your thing every day and get the best out of it. But then at a somewhat lower level, because of the knee." (frieschdagblad.nl, 22 Oct 2020)

At age 14 he broke his ankle. (lc.nl, 03 Mar 2018)
