Club / Team | Hardrijvereniging Den Haag - Westland: Netherlands |
Injuries | A back injury kept her out of the 2020 International Invitation Cup in Heerenveen, Netherlands, and the 2020 Dutch National Distance Championships. (schaatsen.nl, 02 Jan 2021; skatenl.nl, 12 Mar 2020) She broke her collarbone in May 2019 while inline skating and again at the start of the 2019/20 season. (schaatsen.nl, 02 Jan 2021) She broke her ankle at the start of the 2018/19 season. (schaatsen.nl, 31 Jan 2019) |
Reason for choosing this sport | Her parents took her to a local ice hockey club. She then switched to speed skating and eventually short track. "I didn't want to shower with the boys [hockey team] anymore. Short track has more speed and it was more fun." |
Hero / Idol | Dutch speed skater Jorien ter Mors. (schaatsen.nl, 08 Mar 2019)
Ambitions | To compete at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. (ad.nl, 25 Jan 2021) |
Name of coach | Jeroen Otter [national], NED
When and where did you begin this sport? | She began playing ice hockey at De Uithof rink in The Hague, Netherlands, before getting involved in short track in 2008. |
Other information | HERITAGE Her father comes from Aruba. "I'm more of a tropical person since my father comes from the Antilles. I used to go there when I was a kid. The family still lives there and now usually visits the Netherlands. If I don't run a good race, I don't think about it too long and just continue to skate. That's because of my Aruban background, I think. I'm just doing my best and then it will be fine. I don't worry so much."
