In January 2018 she left a training camp at the Jincheon National Training Centre in Republic of Korea after being assaulted by coach Cho Jae-Beom. She required three weeks of recovery, and was diagnosed with a concussion. Cho received a lifetime ban from the Korean Skating Union [KSU], and in September 2018 he was sentenced to 10 months in jail for assaulting multiple athletes between 2011 and 2018. FATHER'S SACRIFICE
Her father Shim Kyo-Gwang quit the job where he had worked for 20 years in order to support Shim when it became apparent she was a talented short track skater.
